Kappo

Tiago Penão is a master of Japanese cuisine, and Kappo is his main stage. With the ambition of earning a Michelin star, the chef is unwaveringly devoted to Japan’s haute cuisine. At the counter, the omakase menu invites guests to trust and place themselves in his hands, delivering an authentic journey with top-quality ingredients and a finely tuned team, in a restaurant completely renovated in 2025.

Izakaya

In Japan, an izakaya is a place where food accompanies drinks rather than the other way around, but that doesn’t mean the dishes are overlooked. In Cascais, Tiago Penão’s Izakaya, with a counter seating just over ten people, exemplifies this perfectly. The music is loud, the lights are low, and the service is quick and lively. Small dishes are designed to be shared.

Fortaleza do Guincho

One of Portugal's longest-standing Michelin-starred restaurants owes its status to its relentless pursuit of culinary excellence. Since 2018, Chef Gil Fernandes has crafted two tasting menus that showcase distinctly Portuguese flavors presented with creativity, dynamism, and technical skill. The sea of Guincho provides both the view and the inspiration.

Casa Santiago

Setúbal is famous for its fried cuttlefish, and it’s no coincidence that Casa Santiago, located right by the ferry terminal to Tróia, is known as the King of Fried Cuttlefish. You can enjoy it as a dish or in a sandwich with just the right amount of mayonnaise. Go with time to spare and don’t be alarmed by the crowd at the door—the dish lives up to its reputation.

Bougain

Bougain is located on the lower floor of Casa da Pérgola, a beautiful centenary mansion surrounded by a garden, now discreetly occupied by a terrace. The menu features classic dishes—don’t miss the carabineiro rice. The attentive and thoughtful service never feels intrusive. The smaller interior is equally charming.

Blitz Pizza

What began almost as a joke is now a serious—yet very laid-back—business. In Costa da Caparica, right on the beachfront avenue, Blitz Pizza quickly became a must-stop on Lisbon’s South Bank (Margem Sul) thanks to its artisanal pizzas. The space is small, with the oven at the center. There’s a great outdoor terrace and a cool vibe. More recently, the duo running the restaurant also introduced a list of natural wines and some sandwiches.

Bar do Fundo

Located at Praia Grande, the name comes from its position at the far end of the beach. Originally a bar over 20 years ago, Bar do Fundo has transformed over the past decade into an excellent seafood and fish restaurant. The large terrace is practically on the sand, and during winter, a fireplace adds to the ambiance.

Adega do Saraiva

Off the tourist trail, this modest restaurant, divided into two rooms, has been in the same family’s hands for decades. The roast kid is the main attraction and does not disappoint. You can also enjoy excellent codfish, and on certain days, traditional Portuguese cozido.
