Ceia

With a single communal table and 14 seats, Ceia turns even a dinner among strangers into an intimate circle (unless you go as a group—the idea is to share the table). Renato Bonfim leads the experience with close attention to seasonality, the rhythm of each ingredient, and soil regeneration. The tasting menu reflects these concerns, without neglecting technique or flavor.

Alma

At Alma, Henrique Sá Pessoa reveals his most personal cuisine, always grounded in Portuguese culinary tradition. The focus on Portuguese products is reflected in two tasting menus: “Alma,” which revisits the chef’s classics (like a reinterpreted pork à alentejana), and “Costa a Costa,” which dives into the flavors of the sea. With two Michelin stars, this is where Sá Pessoa truly showcases his gastronomic vision.

2Monkeys

2Monkeys won a Michelin star in record time thanks to its distinctive concept. Two chefs, Vítor Matos and Guilherme Spalk, serve a tasting menu that is never announced in advance. At the counter, 14 diners are surprised at every moment. The experience thrives on proximity: dishes finished in front of the guest, direct dialogue, and a relaxed atmosphere.

Ó Balcão

Ó Balcão, by chef Rodrigo Castelo, is a fine dining restaurant with identity. The Ribatejo is served at the table with a tasting menu designed down to the smallest detail. Everything is made in-house, from the bread to the smoked and cured products, essential for the river fish the chef works with, as well as the meats. The restaurant also has a green star for its work in sustainability.

Desarma

It was one of the big surprises at the 2023 Michelin Gala. Born in Câmara de Lobos, Octávio Freitas couldn’t be more connected to the island where he has always lived and never wanted to leave. And that’s exactly what he serves at the table: the products, the aromas, and the history of Madeira. All of this happens at the top of the hotel The Views Baía, with an incredible view of Funchal and the sea. The wine cellar is also one of the highlights.

Il Galo D’Oro

French chef Benoît Sinthon may have French training, but in Madeira, he has embraced the local ecosystem in an absolutely surprising way – and that’s why, in addition to two Michelin stars, he has also earned a green star. He sums up his work like this: “We advocate the use of local products from our island through a creative approach, always respecting traditional flavors.” All this in a beautiful and elegant dining room overlooking the Atlantic.

Herdade do Esporão

With one Michelin star and one green star, the restaurant at Herdade do Esporão, led by chef Carlos Teixeira, has a unique setting that translates to the plate. It’s a contemporary, seasonal, and terroir-driven cuisine. Sustainability is at the heart of everything. The wines and olive oils are produced on-site, and the restaurant also sources from its own garden. There’s flavor, color, and texture. A true experience.

Mapa

After 12 years as executive chef at Belcanto, José Avillez’s two-Michelin-starred restaurant, David Jesus has found a stage worthy of his talent. In Montemor-o-Novo, he has a more relaxed restaurant and a more exclusive, gastronomic one. There, he offers two tasting menus: the shorter one focuses on the Alentejo, while the longer one explores the culinary heritage of maritime voyages. A Michelin star is likely on the way.

Mesa de Lemos

Just 15 km from Viseu, nestled among vineyards in a stunning minimalist building, Mesa de Lemos is helmed by Michelin-starred chef Diogo Rocha. The menu highlights local and organic ingredients, with only the estate’s wines and olive oils served at the table. Two tasting menus invite diners on a culinary journey.

Tavira €€€€€

A Ver Tavira

Probably and unfairly the most underrated Michelin-starred restaurant, but what Luís Brito does here is serious business. The chef looks to the region and represents it impeccably on the plate, in an unexpected way. Located in the city's historic center, near the castle, the restaurant features a magnificent balcony with a stunning city view.
